3. Processing of personal data when visiting our website

3.1 General Information

You can visit our website without having to give us your personal data, such as your name or email address. In this case, we can certainly clearly attribute the data collected in connection with the use of our online offer (you will find further information on this subject later, e.g. an IP address and information on the content viewed, referred to as an online data set) to specific visitors, but without knowing the name of these visitors. In this sense, such online data does not in principle constitute personal data. In addition to this processing, we may establish a link between you and online data that is not personal.

We process your personal data when you provide it to us as part of communicating with us or through one of our applications on the website (e.g. contact form, offer request, bonus calculator, chatbot) or when we receive it from third party sources, such as information about you from social media or the Internet or data related to the use of third party websites and online offers, insofar as this use can be attributed to you.

3.2 Log data

Each time the online offer is used, certain data, called “log data”, is generated. This data is recorded automatically in order to ensure the functionality and security of the website. This includes the following data:
  • the IP address of the PC, tablet, smartphone, etc. (device) used;
  • the contact details of the Internet access provider;
  • information about the operating system of the terminal (device) and the browser used;
  • information about the referring URL (origin);
  • the date and time of access, the time difference compared to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and the approximate location;
  • the access status/the HTTP status code, the volume of data transferred;
  • the website from which the request came, the content consulted.
As mentioned in section 3.1, login data, including IP addresses, generally do not constitute personal data in and of themselves.

3.3 Cookies and other behavioral data

We collect further data about your behavior in connection with the use of our online offer. For this purpose, for example, we use cookies. These are small text files that are saved in the browser or device and are read when the online offer is accessed later. Cookies usually contain an anonymous identification number that allows us to identify repeat visitors as such, as well as other information about visitor behavior or the settings of the online offer. Depending on the intended use (see chapter 4 on this subject), it is possible to distinguish between strictly necessary cookies, performance cookies, functional cookies and marketing cookies.
  • Strictly necessary cookies: some cookies are necessary for the functioning of the online offer.
  • Performance cookies: we use cookies that collect and analyze data on the use of our online offer in order to improve its content and presentation and to adapt it to users (see section 5 on this subject). These cookies can be saved beyond the duration of a visit.
  • Functional cookies: These cookies allow us to provide extended functionalities and to personalize, for example, form fields.
  • Marketing cookies: we and our contractual advertising partners use marketing cookies that enable the recording of the content viewed and other actions within the framework of the online offer (see section 6 on this subject).
Detailed information about our cookies can be found in the cookie settings:

If you do not agree with the use of cookies, you can set your browser so that it does not accept cookies in general or cookies from us, or that it informs you when a cookie is set. You can also delete existing cookies. You can find information about this in the Help menu in your browser. Our online offer will remain usable, but some features may be unavailable or only available to a limited extent. You can also install a browser plugin so that it tells you if and when third parties are accessing your browser.

Other technologies similar to cookies can also record behavior within the framework of the online offer.

“Pixels” consist in loading invisible image files into a web page or an email via a coded link from a server that records the corresponding consultation and the data transmitted with the link. They also make it possible to record behavior within the framework of the online offer.

Please note that when you consult our online offer from abroad, we only collect the online data that is necessary for the operation of the offer. We do not collect other online data using cookies or other technologies, as long as we can identify the geographic origin of the accesses. To make this distinction, we also collect information about your approximate location.

3.4 Personal data provided

You can generally use our online offer without providing personal information. On the other hand, if you provide us with personal data via an online offer (e.g. contact form, offer request, premium calculator, chatbot), we process the data communicated in this way.
In summary
3.1: Visitors can access the site without providing personal data. However, some non-personal information is collected.

3.2: Log data is collected automatically to ensure the functionality and security of the site.

3.3: Cookies and other technologies are used to improve the user experience. Users can manage or refuse the use of cookies via their browser.

3.4: Personal data provided voluntarily is processed securely.

4. Purposes of the treatment

When using the website, PilierSuisse processes your personal data for the following purposes in particular:
  • Statistical collection and optimization of the user experience (e.g. monitoring website visitors, statistical evaluations for the development of our offer, determining the attractiveness of our services and optimizing the satisfaction of website users);
  • Guarantee of the functionality and security of the website (e.g. to guarantee computer security, to prevent possible attacks and to optimize the functionality and contents of the website). To do this, we use cookies in some areas. These cookies make it easier for you to use our website;
  • Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. resulting from self-regulations, industry standards, instructions from authorities and internal requirements, e.g. to meet information and information obligations, archiving, handling complaints and other notifications, monitoring communications);
  • Market research, product development and improvement of our services (e.g. analysis of the use of our offers, evaluation and improvement of existing products and development of new products). To do this, we process in particular your master data, but also communication data and data from customer surveys, polls and studies and other information such as media monitoring services, media, social media, social media, the Internet and other public sources.
  • Marketing and relationship maintenance (e.g. transmission of information and advertising from us and from third parties or for third parties, e.g. in the form of newsletters or printed materials, targeting existing customers, organization of customer events, games and competitions, personalization of information and advertising). To do this, we use in particular master data and communication data, but also data relating to behavior and preferences. You can object to processing for marketing purposes at any time or revoke your consent for this purpose by communicating it to us. For more information about your rights, please see ch. 13.
  • Communication: we use online data to communicate with you through electronic channels. To do this, we process the content of the communication, but also the log data on the type and time of the communication.
  • Other purposes: e.g. in connection with communication with you, in particular to respond to requests, internal administration, education and training, data archiving, IT management, protection of our rights, evaluation and improvement of internal processes, statistics and research, protection of other legitimate interests.
By “processing” we mean any management of personal data, e.g. the collection, storage, storage, use, communication and deletion, but also the automated evaluation, the determination of preference data, the assessment of risks or the conduct of statistical evaluations. This also includes profiling, i.e. automated processing for analysis and prognosis purposes (e.g. customer monitoring and marketing purposes, the fight against abuse, money laundering and terrorist financing).
In summary
Personal data is used for a variety of purposes, such as improving the user experience, complying with legal requirements, marketing and communication.

5. Data recipients

We may communicate data in accordance with point 3 in particular to the following categories of recipients, insofar as this is necessary for the purposes referred to in point 4:
  • PilierSuisse group companies;
  • Authorities and administrations: in the context of exercising rights, defending claims and complying with legal requirements, we transmit data online in particular to authorities, administrations, courts and other public services, e.g. in the context of administrative, judicial, pre- or extrajudicial procedures as well as in the context of legal obligations to provide information and cooperation. The authorities process the data concerning you that we transmit to them under their own responsibility.
  • Service providers internal and external to the group (e.g. IT service providers, address and mailing providers, marketing, distribution, communication or printing providers, etc.).
  • Other third parties such as contractual advertising partners, social media providers, social media providers, video platform providers or service providers involved in the execution or organization of events.
These recipients may be located abroad (e.g. in the case of transmission of personal data when using IT services, etc.). Your data can therefore be processed worldwide by states that do not all have a level of data protection corresponding to Swiss law. That is why we make contractual provisions and generally use standard contract clauses (you can find more information on this under https://www.edoeb.admin.ch, unless an exception applies (e.g. for a foreign legal proceeding or a case of overriding public interest if the management of the contract requires such disclosure or if you have consented to it).
In summary
Data can be shared with PilierSuisse group companies, authorities, and service providers, while respecting data protection standards.

6. Information offers, contact forms and calculators

Information offers

We send our customers in Switzerland electronic newsletters which also contain advertising for our offers and those of PilierSuisse in Switzerland, but also for those of other companies with which we collaborate. We ask for your consent for this, except when we promote certain offers to wallet customers.

In this context, in addition to your name and email address, we process online data and other information about you, in order to be able to personalize the content of our newsletters, including, for example, information about whether and when you open a newsletter and what links you click on when. To do this, our email service provider offers a function that essentially relies on invisible image data that is loaded via a link from a server and thus transmits the corresponding data. It is a procedure that helps us assess the impact of our newsletters and optimize them. You can avoid this by setting your email program accordingly (for example by disabling the automatic loading of image files).

Contact forms

If you fill out a contact form on our website or send us an email or electronic message, your data is stored for the processing of the request and any other questions in this regard and is used as part of this request.

Online calculator

For example, our online calculators allow you to calculate your personal financial situation. The evaluation of the use of these calculators is carried out exclusively on the basis of behavioral data entered voluntarily by the user into the calculator. When you fill in and send the form associated with the calculator, your data is stored in order to process your request and other possible related questions. They are used as part of your request.
In summary
Data provided via newsletters, contact forms and online calculators are processed to offer relevant services.

7. Evaluations and statistics relating to the use of our websites

We use service providers to analyze the behavior of visitors to our online offer. They may receive log data and other online data from us and use cookies and similar technologies themselves to collect online data on our online offer. However, we do not share direct personal data such as your name or email address.

7.1 Online marketing

We and our advertising partners have an interest in addressing the advertising as close as possible to the target group, i.e. in displaying it only to the people we want to target with this advertising. For this purpose, we and our advertising partners also use cookies that make it possible to collect the content viewed or the contracts concluded. This allows us and our advertising partners to display ads that may be of interest to you, on our website, but also on other websites that display ads from us or our advertising partners. If you accept the use of these cookies, the corresponding advertising will appear to you. If you do not accept these cookies, you will not see fewer ads. These will simply not be targeted.

Our online offer may also use the “Meta pixel” and similar technologies from Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbor Dublin 2, Ireland (“Meta”) and similar technologies from Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbor Dublin 2, Ireland (“Meta”). These technologies are used to only display the meta ads we publish to Meta users and partners cooperating with Meta who may be interested in them or whose characteristics match those we transmit to Meta for this purpose (e.g. interest in certain themes or products, “custom audiences”). This also allows us to know whether users have been redirected to our online offer via a Meta ad (which allows us to assess the effectiveness of Meta ads for statistical and market research purposes).

We are jointly responsible with Meta for the exchange of data obtained or received by Meta, for targeted Meta advertisements, and for the personalization of Meta's functions and content (but not for further processing). We have concluded a corresponding supplementary agreement with Meta. Users can send requests from data subjects directly to Meta as part of shared responsibility.
In summary
Third-party services are used to analyze the use of the site, without sharing direct personal data.

8. Use of social media platforms

We have our own presence on social media and other platforms (e.g. Meta [formerly Facebook], Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat, LinkedIn, X [formerly Twitter], X [formerly Twitter], Pinterest, and YouTube). When you communicate with us, comment or broadcast content, we collect data that we use mainly in the context of communication with you, for marketing purposes and for statistical purposes (see 4). The platforms may collect other online data, e.g. log data (section 3.2) and other information. On this basis, these platforms can analyze how you use our online offer (e.g. what content you post, what you comment on, “like” or broadcast, etc.) and combine this behavioral data with other information about you (e.g. age or gender information) to create profiles about you and statistics on the use of the sites. The platforms use this data to personalize advertising and content, for market and user research, and to provide us and third parties with statistical user data. The respective providers also collect and use online data for their own purposes, where appropriate together with other data known to them, for example for marketing purposes or content personalization. Insofar as we are jointly responsible with the provider, we conclude a corresponding agreement about which you can find out from the provider concerned (see below for Facebook).

We process the data we receive from the platforms for the purposes described in section 4, in particular for communication, marketing and market research purposes. We may redistribute (e.g. in our ads on the platform or elsewhere) content that you post (e.g. comments on public profiles and contributions), and we and the provider may remove the content in accordance with the usage policies.

More information on the processing carried out by the platform operators (e.g. in which countries the data is disclosed or what rights of the data subjects you have) can be found in the data protection declarations of the providers:
In summary
Social media interactions are used for communication, marketing, and statistical analysis.

9. Automated profiling and individual decisions

We process online data for the purposes mentioned in section 4 and evaluate it automatically for this purpose. An integral part of this is “profiling”, i.e. the automated processing of data for analysis and forecasting purposes. Profiling is primarily used for marketing and security purposes. We can also create profiles, i.e. combine online data and, where appropriate, other data that we already know (section 3.1), in order to better understand you as a person, as well as your various interests and personal needs.
In summary
Profiling is used primarily for marketing and security, combining various online data.

10. Duration of treatment

We keep personal data for as long as our processing purposes, any legal retention periods and our legitimate interests in processing your data for documentation and evidence purposes require, or if their storage is technically necessary. The duration of our processing of personal data is therefore governed by legal and internal provisions as well as by the processing purposes (ch. 4), which include the protection of our interests, for example to assert or defend claims or for documentation and evidence purposes. For more information on the lifespan of cookies, please see section 3.2.
In summary
Personal data is stored in accordance with legal requirements and processing needs.

11. Data security

We treat personal and online data confidentially and take appropriate technical and organizational security measures to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your data, to protect it against unauthorized or unlawful processing, and to prevent the risk of loss, unintentional modification, unwanted disclosure, or unauthorized access. We align ourselves with recognized security standards, e.g. ISO 27001. In general, however, security risks cannot be completely ruled out; some residual risks are unavoidable.

We protect your data transmitted via our online offer during transport using appropriate encryption mechanisms. However, we can only secure domains that we control. If you contact us by email, you act at your own risk and agree that we will respond to you at the sender's address through the same channel. If you send us unencrypted e-mails via the Internet, they may be accessible, viewable, and manipulated by third parties, and data may be lost, intercepted, and/or manipulated by third parties. In addition, we take appropriate technical and organizational security measures to reduce the risk as part of our online offer. However, your device is outside the security domain that we control. It is therefore your responsibility to inform yourself about the necessary security measures and to take appropriate measures in this regard.
In summary
Strict security measures are in place to protect personal data from unauthorized access.

12. Your rights

Under the conditions provided for by law and within the framework applicable to them, you have various rights, which may however be subject to certain conditions and restrictions. You can:
  • ask us whether data concerning you is processed by us and, if so, which data;
  • request that we correct the data if it is inaccurate;
  • object to our processing and require the deletion of data if we are not obliged to continue processing or authorized to do so;
  • require that we return certain personal data in a commonly used electronic format or that it be transmitted to another person responsible;
  • revoke your consent, insofar as our processing is based on your consent.
If we inform you about an automated decision on a case-by-case basis, you have the right to express your point of view and to request that the decision be reviewed by a natural person.
If you wish to exercise your rights against us, please contact us, for example by email at jo.bernard@hotmail.com (further contact details are in section 2). To avoid abuse, we need to verify your identity.

If you do not agree with our treatment of your rights or data protection, please inform us by contacting the service mentioned in section 2.
In summary
You have the right to request access to your data, to correct them, to oppose their processing, and to revoke your consent.

13. Restriction of the offer of products and services

PilierSuisse works exclusively with customers whose business, home or lucrative activity is located in Switzerland. No marketing or sales activities take place abroad and our services are exclusively aimed at people who have their place of residence, their lucrative activity or their usual residence in Switzerland.
